Stretch Of Bergen Boulevard Closed All Day Tuesday After Hit-Run DWI Crash

FAIRVIEW, N.J. -- A stretch of Bergen Boulevard in Fairview and Ridgefield was expected to be closed all day Tuesday after a hit-and-run drunk driver downed a utility pole overnight, police said.

Both directions were closed from Walker Street to Park Avenue after the 5 a.m. crash near Jersey Avenue.

Both directions were closed from Walker Street to Park Avenue after the white Ford Escape crashed near Jersey Avenue around 5 a.m.

The southbound lanes were closed from Edgewater Avenue in Ridgefield to Park Avenue.

The 45-year-old driver from North Bergen "tried to get away, but we caught him," Police Chief Martin Kahn said.
